Double Trouble

The Hillsboro boys and girls basketball teams hosted a doubleheader Tuesday evening as the Patriots of May-Port CG came to town. The Burros walked away with a win on the boys side while May-Port CG won the girls encounter. At halftime of the girls game, Kaden Pastian, 3rd grade, drives to the basket as Micah Gallagher, fourth grade, plays good defense. The girls team listens to coaches Kyle Morehart and Scott Kelley during a timeout. The crowd goes crazy as the cheerleaders toss out shirts.

Grothmann to represent Hillsboro in national title game

One game at a time; that’s how Andrew Grothmann and the North Dakota State University (NDSU) football team have approached the 2011-2012 campaign. It’s been an effective method to say the least for the Bison. The powerful, experienced squad has cruised during post-season play, outscoring its opponents 75-21. Now, only two teams remain to square off for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) title Satruday, Jan. 7 at 12:05 pm.

Locked-out Crystal employees show up for work

Locked-out Crystal Sugar employees have reported to work in the cold during past winters. More than three dozen stood in a biting wind and numbing wind chill the morning of Jan. 3 outside the Hillsboro, N.D., plant to demonstrate they’re ready to return to work. Other members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Worker and Grain Millers International Union did the same at plants in Drayton, N.D., and East Grand Forks, Crookston and Moorhead, Minnesota.

Security upgrades complete at sheriff’s department, jail

The Traill County Sheriff’s Department and jail has undergone several upgrades, leaving facilities a much safer place. A brand-new security system has been installed and in use the past two weeks. It’s been a positive project for the department. Mike Crocker, Traill County Sheriff, said. “This is something we have been wanting to do for the past several years,” he said. “It will increase security tremendously. We’re glad to have it completed.”
